Shapes Part 2 and Paper Doll Part 1 Page

From now on we will be making two pages, a front and back. The front is part 2 of the Paper Doll Page. The back page is part 1 of the Barnyard Page.

Paper Doll Part 2 Page

  • 3 sheets of 9" x 12" felt in cream, dark pink, and white
  • scraps of felt in light pink, light brown, dark pink and black
  • Black Sharpie or fabric marker
  • Velcro
  • Fusible Web
  • Sewing Machine
  1. Cut a 4" x 12" strip from the dark pink. Place on top of the cream sheet and line up to the bottom and side edges. Sew top of edge of the pink strip. This is the rug of the room.

  2. Draw the following shapes onto the paper side of the fusible web: 6" x 4" (dresser), 4 1/2" x 4" (inside pocket) and 3- 1" x 3" (drawers). Iron onto the white felt. Cut out all of the pieces.

  3. Iron on the drawers to the dresser. Sew on a little piece of velcro to the bottom of the dresser. Sew around each drawer.

  4. Draw 6 little circles (for the drawer knobs) on the paper side of the fusible web. Cut out and iron onto the light pink felt. Iron on the knobs onto the drawers.
  5. Place inside pocket where you want the dresser to be and sew the sides and bottom onto the cream page. Sew the remaining piece of Velcro to the bottom of the pocket.

  6. Place dresser on top of pocket so that the bottoms match up. Pin and sew a straight line 1/4" from the top of the dresser.

  7. Draw a little lamp and teddy bear on the paper side of the fusible web. (You can add whatever you want to the top of the dresser or leave it blank). Iron on to the light pink, light brown, dark pink and black. Cut each piece out.

  8. Iron on the teddy bear and lamp details. Iron on the teddy bear and lamp onto the top of the dresser.

  9. Place the clothes you made from the previous page inside the dresser pocket.

Barnyard Page

  • Sewing Machine
  1. Cut out a piece of green felt to look like a hill.
  2. Pin on top of the light blue felt sheet and sew on the top of the hill.

  3. Draw a circle for the sun and little triangles for the rays on the paper side of fusible web. Iron onto yellow felt and cut out. Iron onto top of light blue page.

  4. Draw two cloud shapes on the paper side of fusible web and iron on to white felt. Cut out and iron onto light blue page.

  5. Print out Farm Animal Finger Puppet Template and cut out farm animal base. Pin to a double layer of the yellow felt and cut out. Repeat the steps for the light pink and white felt.
  6. Cut out horns and ears of cow, ears of pig, and chicken top and place on top of respective colors. Cut out each shape.
  7. Place fusible web on top of the details of the animals and trace onto paper side. Iron on shape to respective colors and cut out. Iron on details to each animal.

  9. Sandwich each base of the animals and sew around the sides and top leaving the bottom open.
Finishing
  • 4 sheets of card stock
  • 2 grommets
  1. Take the two completed pages and sandwich them together. The paper doll page should be on top and the barnyard page behind. Stitch a 1/4" seam around 3 sides of the two pages of felt.
  2. Slip all of the card stock sheets into the opening of the felt pages you just sewed. Sew the opening shut.
  3. Place grommets 3 inches down from top and bottom on the left side with the paper doll page facing up.
  4. Attach to the rest of the pages using the rings.
** Stay tuned for my next tutorial where I will be making part two of the barnyard page and part one of the face page.

Turkey and Black Bean Taco Dinner Dip #Recipe

We have this at least once a week. I called it a dip because instead of using taco shells or tortillas I eat them with tortilla chips. I think it's fun to eat and takes longer to finish when you use chips. If you are watching carbs you can eat the dip on lettuce cups.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups black beans (I use cooked dry beans but you can use canned just drain and rinse)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 medium green pepper, diced
  • 3 large mushrooms, diced
  • 2 medium carrots, grated
  • 1 tblsp onion powder
  • 1 tblsp garlic powder
  • 2 tblsp Goya softrito*
  • 1/2 tblsp oregano
  • 1/2 tblsp Goya adobo**
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
Directions
  1. Add all vegetables into pan and saute until the veggies have softened.
  2. Add turkey and cook until completely brown.
  3. Add seasonings and cook, stirring for about 1 minute.
  4. Add tomato sauce and black beans.
  5. Cook on low heat stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.
  6. Serve with tortilla chips and your favorite taco condiments.
6 servings.

*If you can't find the Goya adobo just add a little bit of salt to taste.
**If you can't find the Goya sofrito take a handful of cilantro chop and add at the end.

2 Months and 2 Weeks Down

Yesterday was weigh in day and I lost 1.4 pounds bringing the total to 32.8 pounds loss.

Nutrition:
I wasn't so strict with my calories this week and enjoyed some things I have been avoiding like bread and a cup of decaf coffee. I indulged a little with some Puerto Rican cuisine on Wednesday but shared my sandwich with my sister. I tried the the Cook Simple Jambalaya Rice and added turkey kielbasa and shrimps. It was amazing!

On Saturday I went over my mom's and had one of her famous pork chops. Instead of eating it with a starch I had it with some salad. Although I know it is OK for me to indulge a little I really need to get back to counting my calories just to make sure I am not going over.

Fitness:
I had a great fitness week and went to the gym 3 times this week. I am super happy with my gym so far. The environment, the people and the equipment are awesome! I took a super long walk on Wednesday with my sister which was perfect to burn off the meal we ate. My FitBit Flex buzzed really early that day with my calories burned goal completed.

I wore my Polar F11 heartrate monitor at the gym and it kept pushing me to work harder. When my heart rate wasn't in the fat burning zone I just added more to the incline and speed of the treadmill.

This Week:
  • Count my calories
  • Prepare quinoa
  • Go to the gym at least 3 times + a long walk
  • Resistance Band workout 3 times
  • Drink more water
