First Time Mom and Losing It

Now that the holidays are over, it is time to focus on getting healthy and starting the new year right. My family has been on a weight loss journey since August 31 so we ended 2015 with success! We want to continue with losing weight, getting active and giving our preschooler healthy foods. One of the meals we always struggled with was lunch because she is so picky. It is a new year and a new us so I wanted to make her lunches more creative and nutritious with the help of my favorite brands.


Young children are visual little people so it helps to make their lunches fun and colorful. Instead of a boring sandwich I took the Pepperidge Farm® Swirl Bread and made little cream cheese roll ups with them. All you have to do is take a slice of bread and roll is flat with a rolling pin (or cup). Then you spread a thin layer of cream cheese and roll it up.


My daughter loves all kinds of fruit which I am pretty proud of but sometimes it is out of season and really expensive. I am glad I have the option of the high quality fruit cups from Del Monte. Now with the Del Monte® Fruit & Veggie Fusions not only is she getting nutrients from the fruits but she is getting nutrients from the vegetable juice. Since the vegetable juice is infused with the fruit juice she doesn't even know it. To decorate the top of the fruit cup I love to add a special little note attached with a sticker.

I love that they are packed with calcium and protein and in a single serving package.  I like to wrap the napkin and utensil onto the cheese snack with a couple of pipe cleaners. After she is finished with her lunch she can entertain herself with the pipe cleaners.



What do you do to make your kid's lunch boxes fun? 

My husband and I have been well into our weight loss journey since August 31. A big part of us wanting to get healthy is to be better role models for our daughter. It makes it easier for us to succeed in our weight loss efforts because she is a great motivator. Since we are making healthier choices for ourselves we started making healthier choices for her too.


We still have a very picky three year old so it's hard to find healthy choices that she will actually eat. I have tried my best to disguise lots of food and sometimes it has actually worked and sometimes it has been epic fails. For now we just keep trying with different recipes and keep track of the nutrients she is consuming with the foods that she does like.


I went to Walmart to pick up her favorite lunch snacks, Del Monte® Fruit Cup® Snacks and Frigo® Cheeseheads® Cheese Snacks. My husband and I have been together for thirteen and a half years, been married for 6 years and have been parents for 2 1/2 years! We met in college and right on our first date night we knew we were soul mates. I remember us being super romantic and always having our alone couple time before baby.


It took us almost 3 years of trying to have our daughter so we treasure every little moment with our little princess. Both being first time parents later in life makes us so much more in love with our precious daughter. Our life has been consumed with being parents. We do basically everything together as a trio. Whether it's taking her to her dance class or exploring different toddler friendly places like museums and play places.


Right before Christmas time we always tell each other what we want as gifts. He usually buys me whatever kitchen or craft gadget I am into at the moment and I always buy him cologne or a watch. We both decided to plan 12 date nights, one for each month in lieu of gifts! Since we are always with our daughter we don't really get the opportunity to be alone or go on date nights. This is the perfect plan to get closer and more connected with each other.


I got a jar, some colored paper and a nice pen and I gave him 6 cards and gave myself 6 cards. We each wrote down 6 date nights and stuffed them in the jar. Every month we are going to pick out one of the cards and do whatever it says. I am excited to see what my husband wrote!


I secretly took an extra paper making it my 7th card and put it right on top of the jar. I will be asking him to pick it out on Christmas day. This one is the "Romantic Date at Home". I will be cooking a delicious dinner and dessert we can enjoy while watching a DVD of our first movie date.
