As you may have seen from my previous craft posts I love to upcycle discounted adult clothing into pajamas and play clothes that my daughter can wear at home. Every time I go shopping I check out the clearance sections and check out the cheap little gems I can turn into something wearable for my daughter.
A few days ago I hit the clearance section and found a pair of shorts for $1.99. They looked long enough to become long pants for my daughter so I quickly picked them up. As soon as I got home I folded them in half and placed them on top of my makeshift craft table (little wooden TV tray that my daughter decided to put stickers all over :)) and then took out a pair of toddler pants that fit my daughter well and folded them and placed them on top of the shorts. I was super pleased when they fit perfectly! I didn't have to sew a new hem or create a new waistband!
Then I carefully cut the inseam and sides of the pants along the toddler pants making sure to cut an extra 3/4" of an inch on each side.
Then all I did was sew down the sides of the pants using a 1/2" allowance. Lastly I sewed the inseam of the pants using a 1/2" allowance. That's it! I didn't have to bother with a hem or even get out some elastic to create a new waistline.
