How To Drink Water and Like It!

I have never been a water drinker. I always preferred soda and juice to water. Every time I would go down the path of being healthier I would force myself to drink water. After a few days you get so sick of water that you stop drinking it. I wasn't drinking soda or juice anymore but I also wasn't drinking enough water.

Why do you have to drink so much water? I was looking up the importance of drinking water and came up with this site: Importance of Water in the Diet. What I read kind of scared me. Did you know that a body can only go through 5-7 days without water? Reading the information on that site made me want to drink water.

I first started out by trying to flavor my water. I added lemons at first and then experimented with cucumber, strawberries, oranges and pineapple. All tasted delicious. It gave the water a little bit of flavor and sweetness. The pineapple was my favorite. Infused Waters is a great site that has tons of recipes for flavored water.

Something else that keeps me motivated to drink water are my SparkPeople and FitBit apps. They allow you to record how much water you drink. It's fun to met your goal and get praise for it. SparkPeople even gives you SparkPoints if you have gotten your 8 cups of water in.

How do you make it easier to get your water in?

  4. I'm a personal trainer who used to have a horrible diet coke addiction. Drinking water makes me feel so much more energized! For those of you wondering how much to drink, a good goal is 1/2 your body weight in ounces for a start. I haven't made my own infused water yet, but I had some at a hotel lately and I couldn't stop refilling my bottle! Thanks for the reminder :)

  6. Water is nasty. That's my first opinion of it, but it changed when I made it the only thing I drank. Then it's amazing how much better it tastes when you don't have pop influencing your taste buds!

  7. I drink coffee and water, usually nothing else. I will have some orange juice if I need the vitamin C. I have a great water filter, so my water tastes pretty good, but when I was pregnant, water suddenly tasted fishy to me and I had to flavor it to get my in take.

Its funny though, I actually read an article recently that said we don't need as much water as you might think to be healthy. Its weird how we are the only species that needs so much water or we are considered dehydrated. Animals do not drink as much water as we do, yet humans are always deficient. I'm just not so sure this information is accurate, especially since there is such a thing as water intoxication. I'm definitely not saying any water intake should be supplemented with something else, I'm just saying I don't think we really need to drink 2 liters of water a day. Maybe you would if you were really really active. I can barely do 32 before I'm just done drinking and drinking double that I'm sure would make me feel sick.

  21. I love water. Lemon is one of those things that can be iffy if you go out in public because you don't know if they thoroughly wash the lemons before they put them in your drink.

  24. I really need to start drinking more water... I'm addicted to Diet Coke and I know that it's horrible for me... One of my friends suggested drinking carbonated water, so I get that feeling of fizz. And I also just bought a pretty water bottle, so it makes me excited to use it all day. I hope it works!
